The Headshot Social, Our First Women’s Networking Event

The paradox of modern life is this: we have never been more connected and we have never been more alone.
— Matt Haig

Just as this quote implies, the digital age has ushered in a whole new way of relating to one another. However connected we might feel through our social media interactions and follows, the trade off has been less and less face-to-face relationship building. In our 13+ years as photographers, we have had the privilege of crossing paths with so many other women running small businesses in Central Texas, and we both have been craving more in-person connection with other women building businesses with creativity, integrity, and generosity.

With this in mind, we did a new thing a few weeks ago! We hosted our very first women in business networking event, the Headshot Social. This event was something we’ve talked about putting on for some time, and we genuinely mean it when we say it was amazing! To see the very first Headshot Social come together was so sweet.

We wanted to elevate the networking experience by creating an event that was beautiful aesthetically, and also created opportunity to dive past surface level questions through deeper, more specific conversation starters.

“Intentional” was the word of the evening, and we hope we delivered!

4 things were important to us:

  1. Great Atmosphere

  2. Amazing Food + Drinks

  3. Deeper Conversation + Connection For Women Across Various Business Industries

  4. Giving women a tangible takeaway from the event. We wanted them wrapping up the evening feeling refreshed + inspired + enjoying a complimentary headshot that could be used for their own professional needs.

The room was filled with designers, realtors, doctors, small product shop owners, and various service providers. We had business beginners in the room as well as veteran business owners in the mix and it was refreshing to encourage/be encouraged by women in so many different respective lanes.

Our friend Nat with Drift Home + Interiors delivered on the great atmosphere front! She was so kind to open her brick and mortar in downtown New Braunfels to help us host the event. If you haven’t stopped in yet, you need to make it to her shop. It is BEAUTIFULLY curated with thoughtfully sourced housewares, Moroccan rugs, jewelry and more!

Our fave foodie, Kelyn with Buka Bakehouse provided a beautiful spread of yummy food for us to gather around. Her olive oil cake bites are simply the best thing since sliced bread. Courtney with Betty Lou Coffee provided cold brew to keep us caffeinated through the evening. If you haven’t stopped by her adorable coffee trailer in downtown NBTX you need to!

We loved offering complimentary headshots to our attendees. We believe every woman needs a headshot, and providing space for them to do a little makeup refresh (thank you to our makeup artist, Amanda Neese!) to feel camera-ready beforehand was just the cherry on top.

The coral pink seamless paper was a fun last minute addition to our staple neutral gray backdrop choice. We laughed a ton, and had the best time photographing so many beautiful women!

Almost everyone stayed way past the end time, laughing, some crying, and relating to each other on so many different levels both professionally and personally. We want to keep making space for women in business to have the opportunity to be seen, heard, encouraged, and inspired through relationship building. It’s safe to say we will be hosting another Headshot Social sometime in the coming months. So, if you are a woman in business in Central Texas we’d love to have you in the room at our next event.
